Planning your journey to the airport – what to considerPosted 18th April 2016
Nothing spoils the beginning of a trip like having to reschedule a missed flight. The first step in avoiding this is booking an airport transfer with us at the correct time.
For more information on preparing yourself before getting your airport taxi, follow our guide getting ready for your holiday and booking your airport taxi.
Allowing yourself plenty of time at the airport
In order to figure out how much time you will need, you should work backward from the time you will need to get to the airport. You can ask both your carrier and the airport itself what is recommended. Depending on whether you are flying domestically and internationally, whether you are checking baggage and the size of the airport, you may need to arrive anywhere from about one to three hours before your flight leaves. That may seem like a lot of time, but keep in mind that you may need to find your airport counter, print a boarding card, check in, check your luggage, go through security and find your gate.
Next, you need to know how long it will take you to get to the airport. We can give you an estimate. Be conservative and allow yourself plenty of time.
Once you arrive at the airport, if you have checked in online, have printed your boarding pass ahead of time, and do not have any luggage, you may be able to proceed directly to security. If you need to print a boarding pass or check bags, you must find the counter for your airline. Most airports now have machines that will allow you to print a boarding pass. If you have not checked in online, you will need to do this as well.
Getting through security
You will also need to pass through security. Be sure that you have reviewed rules about what you can take in your carry-on baggage. Your belongings will go through a scanner and you will pass through a metal detector or scanner as well.
After security, you can make your way to your gate. Your boarding card and departure boards at the airport will give you your gate number. Once you arrive there, you usually do not need to do anything further until it is time to board. If the airline staff needs to speak with you, they will call your name out.
This may sound like a lot to remember, but the staff at the airport can direct you if you have questions at any point. Be sure that you also book an airport transfer with us for your return trip. When you choose a time, keep in mind that it will take you a little while to get off the plane and get your bags.Posted in News
